Great idea Mark but the cars shouldn't be so easy to steal in the first place. It's time the government mandates an appropriate level of security (& required security updates) for a $100k driving computer system. Perhaps the automotive security issue is more like whack a mole but then maybe a physical key wasn't too stupid to begin with?
I agree that the security systems don't seem very robust, but I'm not sure how you combat the relay technology. The cars that allow you access to a port if you get behind the front headlight could be blocked -- you'd think. Manufacturers have clearly been thinking about ease-of-use for mechanics and the physical structure of repair bays, and not defeating criminals with specific inside insight into how to access these vehicles w/o breaking their windows. The violent armed home invasions won't be stopped until the police respond in the same way as they do to an armed bank robbery: 9 speeding cars (with K9) and a new police helicopter. Or do a few stakeouts and out these armed guys in jail without bail.
What are we waiting for? We deserve this care and consideration. Thank you Mark for showing the way.

Mark McQueen - That is one of the best ideas to have the Canadian Navy get involved.
Thanks for your leadership on this, Mark
Canada has a floating Navy?
