Good one Mark. Wesley Wark calls this a nothing-burger in his SubStack of this morning, so I commented with a ref to yours here.

When you read the headline for the Globe piece it shows how they worked very hard to make it look like CSIS just discovered this today. The Globe masthead should read “ Trying our hardest to give you 10 more years of a shitty economy”.

The substance of the leak matters. The reliability of the source matters. The source doesn't really matter. This is just white washing to try to lessen the importance of security clearance and foreign interference, and its shadow hanging over PP. This same methodology is in play, and all over media feeds, in the US right now - blame the reporter breaking the story rather than accept the responsibility of the story. The thinking public won't buy this redirection of the story, and will decide its importance for/to themselves.

What is the "substance" of the leak, exactly? According to the Globe, Mr. Poilievre was "unaware" of what was neither "sweeping" nor "highly organized" activity on his behalf. Those alleged activities would have taken place regardless of his clearance status, and CSIS briefed his Chief of Staff on them, after the fact, i case an action had to be taken within the party ranks.

I would hazard a guess that the security clearance that the ‘leaker’ holds may be to review reports from NSCIOP, a committee of parliamentarians hand-picked by Justin Trudeau and does not carry the same weight as security clearance by CSIS. Continuing failure to call the Liberals out on this duplicity allows them to continue trying to create the wedge issue they desperately need.

Why fire the bullet this early? Presumably you hold onto that one until about ten days out...

Insightful. When there is so much relevant news to discuss the re-announcement of warmed over allegations sticks out like a sore thumb.

The liberals have no record to run on no matter the leader. This is going to be a nasty campaign where the legacy media will only be too happy to curry favour for the liberals given Poilievre's take on subsidies to media. The old chestnut of Poilievre's security clearance which is a nothing burger but is amplified 100 fold by liberals and the media is a dumb but effective tactic given how uninformed the Canadian electorate is. The liberals only have to beat the conservatives to win; the conservatives have to beat the liberals, the media and get through the public's ignorance and gullibility. We just may get stuck with another liberal government and that will likely spell disaster for Canadians for generations to come.
